On Saturday and Sunday, June 8th and 9th, 2024, the second edition of the MATADEPERA JAZZ FESTIVAL will be held, created and organized by the Fredi’s Jazz Band Association and organized by the Excellent Matadepera City Council. The MATADEPERA JAZZ FESTIVAL promotes young talent in Jazz among boys and girls up to 21 years old, starting from very early ages.
The activities will begin on Saturday, June 8th, at 7:15 PM with a parade featuring the “New Orleans Dixie Jazz Band” and guests through the streets of downtown Matadepera.
At 8:15 PM, on the main stage in Cal Baldiró square, the adult combo “Ni Swing de Calaix” from the “Frederic Mompou” Municipal School of Matadepera, along with the choir from the Senior Citizens’ Center and the Adult Choir from the school, will offer the first concert. Then, at 9:15 PM, there will be a concert with the “Roy Hargrove Tribute,” also on the main stage.
At 10:30 PM, the Jam Session will begin at the Hotel in Cal Baldiró square, aiming to bring together young talents and experienced musicians with the open participation of Jazz musicians of different ages and instruments, continuing well into the night of Saturday and the early hours of Sunday.
On Sunday, June 9th, activities will start at 11:30 AM at the Cultural Center with a parade featuring the “New Orleans Dixie Jazz Band” through downtown Matadepera, ending at Cal Baldiró square.
At 12:30 PM, there will be a concert on the main stage in Cal Baldiró square by the “Petits Dixie Fredi’s Jazz Band” from the Frederic Mompou school. Then, at 1:15 PM, the Gumbo Jazz Band will perform.
During the performances on June 8th and 9th, there will be two “Food Trucks” present with a wide gastronomic offer, allowing us to enjoy good music and good food.
At 4:30 PM, there will be an open debate-discussion on the History of Jazz in Catalonia and the musician’s attitude towards music. Participants include great experts on these topics such as Pere Pons (journalist), Ricard Gili (director and trumpeter of “Locomotora Negra”), and Enric Alegre (saxophonist and director of Fredi’s Jazz Band). The session will be conducted by Susanna Carmona (programmer of the Terrassa Jazz Festival). The goal is to discuss the direction of music and what young musicians think about the current musical scene.
At 5:30 PM, we have the large Jam Session outside the Cultural Center with the group “All Stars Legends & New Young Talents” featuring Ricard Gili (director and trumpeter of “Locomotora Negra”), Josep Ma Farràs (trumpeter), Adrià Font (drummer), Horacio Fumero (double bassist), and Pere Ferrer (pianist).
At 6:45 PM, all musicians will parade from the Cultural Center square to the main stage in Cal Baldiró square. Then, at 7:00 PM, the concert will begin on the main stage with “The Abstract Project.” At 8:00 PM, the final concert will be on the main stage with Fredi’s Jazz Band.
For this 2nd edition of the JAZZ FESTIVAL in Matadepera, we will once again have the support of the Excellent Matadepera City Council, sponsors, and local collaborating entities.
